NOTE: Our office has stopped placing metal, amalgam (Silver/Mercury) fillings in our patients' mouths. There are several important reasons for this.

1. In my opinion, the mercury content in the fillings may be a hazard to your health. However the ADA does not support this claim.
2. Amalgam fillings expand over time, placing stress on the remaining tooth enamel, thereby increasing the chances of a tooth fracture.
3. The office itself becomes a safer environment because there are no mercury vapors in the air.

Instead, we use tooth-colored resins and porcelain along with gold to restore teeth. These materials do not expand over time, contains no mercury, and with the exception of gold, are more aesthetically pleasing in the mouth. The durability of the tooth-colored fillings is now similar to that of the amalgam fillings, which was a concern in the past.
